In March 2014, Bratislava is awaiting the next opera-event of the actual season. In the AEGON Arena of National Tennis Centre the world-famous Argentinean tenor José Cura will introduce himself performing his first feature concert in Slovakia together with the young Slovak soprano Linda Ballová.

The unique concert of the world star in opera heaven will be held on March 13, 2014 at 7 p. m. It is organized by the Agency 212 bringing the “classic art” to Slovakia for the first time.
JOSÉ CURA is well-known not only because of the individual performance of Italian and French operatic roles based on the dramatic repertoire, especially Verdi´s Otello and Saint-Saëns´ Samson, but also by his emotive and vigorous dramatic action. During the concerts he often demonstrates also another side of his artistic face – by conducting the orchestra himself and some compositions he conducts and sings simultaneously. The spectators of the most famous world opera houses such as Metropolitan Opera New York, La Scala in Milan, Vienna State Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Royal Opera House London, Opera Zürich, Opera Köln etc. had an opportunity to admire the performing art of José Cura. He recorded the widespread discography.
José Cura is composer, conductor, performer and showman with spontaneous charm, thus versatile artist. Recently he devoted himself even to the operatic stage direction. One of his latest successes is the performance of Verdi´s Otello in Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he introduced himself not only singing the demanding title part of Otello but also as a stage director. The web server “Seen and Heard” dealing mainly with opera and musical world as well as an Argentinean editor of Herald Jonathan Spencer Jones assigned in their review articles the adaptation of Otello by maestro Cura to the best musical events in 2013. He approaches to the conducting and singing by the same way – with the huge onset. José Cura says that the fidelity to piece and text is the real key to the theatre.
Maestro is not for the first time in Slovakia. His appearances in our country are connected with the Slovak National Theatre where he took part in “Crystal ball” on March 5, 2011 and later in two successful performances of Verdi´s Otello on February 11 and March 2, 2012. The upcoming third visit in Slovakia will be in occasion of his first full-length evening concert.

José Cura choose a young Slovak soprano Linda Ballová as a guest star and hereby he declared that the propagation and support of young talented singers is the duty of the famous ones: “It is no problem to set up the concert with the famous soprano but this would be too easy. I want to be a part of the progress and blossom of, in my opinion, one of the best sopranos and once, when she becomes famous, I can say: I also helped her.” – maestro said to the selection of guest. Linda Ballová considers the performance with José Cura as a great opportunity. “I am looking forward to this cooperation although I still don´t feel it too emotionally. We haven´t sung together yet with José Cura, so far we only discussed the concert program” – she said. The voice ambit of Ballová is markedly leant on her acting abilities. She can seize the spectators by the demanding dramatic, even tragic expression as well as amuse them by the frisky Mařenka (The Bartered Bride). However, she always leans on the excellent singing performance, deep work up and an effort for the perfect comprehension of the role.

With the accompanying of 75-membered orchestra of South-Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice conducted by its chief conductor Mario de Rose, the operatic delicacies by Leoncavallo, Verdi or Puccini will sound. For the relief from the opera feeling José Cura will perform some Argentinean songs and guitar playing. Accompanying himself he will sing the songs by Beatles. He unveiled that in concert in Bratislava he will also conduct some piece.

Besides the participation on opera and concert stages José Cura devoted himself also to the stage direction and preparation of Otello on DVD (Teatro Colón Buenos Aires). Meanwhile, the staging of La Bohéme in Stockholm (premiere in 2015) is awaiting him. As a singer he will enrich the repertoire by the demanding title tenor part in opera Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten (2017).
